SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO)
Overview: Optimizing your website for the search engines will make it so that when people search for keywords related to your site, your site is the first to come up on the list. So when you type in the keyword “download music” on Google the website that comes up first on the list of sites has been very well optimized for the search engines. Now this is a very difficult task to accomplish but if you can at least get your website to come up on the first page then you will have achieved success.

Pros: Search Engine Optimization allows users that have never heard of your site to find it by searching on Google and other search engines. This generates large amounts of traffic that you would otherwise have to pay for or spend lots of effort in attracting. People who find your website through a search engine are already targeted customers because they have already expressed that they are interested in something related to what your website provides.

Cons: Trying to get the number one spot is extremely hard, and just getting in the top ten is difficult enough. Search Engine Optimization can take a very long time whereas other methods for attracting viewers are much faster.

Making Money- Advanced Use and Tools: So how do you go about getting one of those treasured spots? If you already followed the step of creating great content and updating it frequently then you are a step ahead of the game. If you haven’t, then go back and do that. Search Engines such as Google love to see unique content that can not be found other places on the web. In addition they like to see that content is being updated frequently. Now in order to optimize your site you have to focus on both “onsite” and “offsite” factors,

Onsite Factors-
Keyword placement is important in determining your sites relevance to a topic. Use header tags (bits of html code that look like this.. h1 h2 etc. By making the main topic of your webpage bigger than the rest you illustrate to the search engines that those words are important to your website’s overall content. You can also use underlining, bolding, and italicizing, but you need to be careful that you do not over do it as this will have a negative affect. Another onsite factor is how easy your website is to navigate. You should have links to every page on your site, from every other page on the site. Simply put, the viewer should be able to get to any page of your site from any other page on the site. Not only does this help with SEO but it is simply a good thing to provide your viewers with. It is very frustrating when you cant find your way back to page that you viewed earlier on the same website. Another way to make your website favorable for the search engines is by changing the title tag of your webpage. The title tag is the text you see on the blue bar across the top of your screen. Change your title tags for each individual page on your webpage so that each page becomes more favorable for the search engines. You also need to include a site map. This is the page that shows all the pages on your site and what they include. This helps the search engines index your site more easily.

Offsite Factors- No matter how well you optimize your site with onsite factors you will most likely not get on of those coveted top ten spots unless you focus on offsite factors as well. First make sure your site is indexed. When Google sends its “spiders” to crawl pages it can miss yours and you may have to submit it manually. When search engines determine your page rank they look at how many other sites link to yours. So you need to get a large number of sites to link to you, and if possible a few high ranking websites. This process is known as building backlinks. This step will boost the ranking of your website beyond belief. The problem is, this isn’t easy to do. You need to find high ranking webpages that are related to your website and ask them to link to your site. How do you do this? It isn’t easy but I’ve listed some ways to increase your chances of success. Word your email professionally. Include a link to their website before requesting a link to yours, and tell them where on your website you have placed the link to their site. Tell briefly how your site relates to theirs and how it would be beneficial to both parties to link to each other. Do not include lots of fluff and try to get to the point across as quickly as possible. Another way to get links to your site is by submitting articles. Write an informative helpful article that doesn’t include affiliate links. Submit this article to article submission sites and they will allow you to attach an author’s signature. This will include a link to your site. When you submit articles you allow others to use the content and your link gets passed all over the web. The more sites you submit to the more webpages you will find that link to yours.

Making Money- Advanced Use and Tools:
Search Engine Optimization is an art in itself and can take huge amounts of time to master. The above strategies are very detailed and may require some further research, so I will not go into any further detail in this guide.
